Slurry pump expeller is a powerful element in centrifugal seal slurry pumps which has vanes to reduce the shaft pressure at the shaft seal area. The principle of expeller seal pump is that the total pressure produced by the pump out vanes and the expeller is greater than the pressure generated by the impeller main vanes plus the inlet pressure.
The slurry pump expeller seal is unstable if the suction head exceeds 10% of the discharge head. Slurry pump expellers are normally made in metal (cast iron or high chrome) or rubber, special materials are also available. A grease-lubricated packed gland with neck and lantern ring in the expeller ring stops leakage when the pump is stationary because the centrifugal seal is only effective when the pump is running. The slurry pump shaft sleeve's function is to protect the shaft from slurry abrasion and corrosion. A slip-fit allows the shaft sleeve to be replaced quickly.
